The power of the (un)written word

So I took a little break there. Did anybody notice?

Here's what happened..... Way back, in June, I think.... I recall it was after the students left for the summer, because one of the B-Town Bites crew pretty much refuses to go near campus during the school year... we went to Yogi's .... it was a nice night, with good weather, no traffic, a Thursday evening after a not-bad work day.... so - Yogi's. Yogi's had (yep, past tense) been in Bloomington many years, and I had been there on a couple of occasions. The first occasion included a bottle of Patron and a very generous friend. I don't have a lot of memory about that one! The last occasion I was with a dear friend whom I don't get to see very often. We had a great conversation and the food was definitely a second act.

So I decided Yogi's definitely needed to be blogged about. I needed to pay better attention to the food. I need to check the accessibility. I needed to see a clean toilet! Well, a bunch of those things got done! I really liked that in the women's restroom at Yogi's one could get out without touching any door handles! Woo hoo!

A lot of the other stuff though, I found somewhat dissatisfying. Very slow service in an almost empty restaurant, soggy fries, uncomfortable patio tables and chairs for dining room furniture... nothing terrible, but by the end I decided Yogi's is okay, but maybe I would recommend that it is the kind of place that's good enough, but only go if somebody else pays.

I never wrote the blog entry (as you know). It kept feeling unsettling to me. In the few reviews that I've done, I've never really had to be negative about a place.  There was always something redeeming that made me want to go back and give it another chance, another dish I needed to try, or a desire to find out more about something I didn't cover fully, like What IS a feta roll? I stalled... a week had passed. I stalled some more, two weeks had passed. I stalled some more, and then I read in the Herald-Times that Yogi's was going to close. So I'm sorry Yogi's, the power of the unwritten word and all my thoughts about not spending money at Yogi's must have entered the collective conscience of Bloomington.

Another month or so has passed since then. B-Town Bites is going to get past the Yogi's experience and the non-blog. I am going to choose more local restaurants, and I've been considering a chain every now and then, they are part of life, after all, and get back to the blog. My taste buds are itching for some good seasoned fries and my fingers are itching to type it all up!

Has it ever happened to you that you didn't like someplace very well and then it closed? Did you feel a little relieved when you realized - Hey, I must not be the only one who didn't really like that?

My camera has been lost since my trip to Virginia. If I ever get it back I'll post the Yogi's photos AND all the photos of the diners (and one Italian restaurant) that we visited during the Virginia adventure. So keep on watching this space, and keep on eating, B-Town!
